DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP

Guiding with vision, empowering through example

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Thank you for the honor of being your Department of Illinois President. So far I’ve attended three installations, Korean War Armistice, Police Night Out, three Zoom meetings, finance meeting in Bloomington, 8 & 40, and I am still our Unit secretary. Thank God for lots of help when it came to planning the School of Instruction, Fall Board, hospitality room, and my Homecoming, because the next day we attended the Illinois State Fair & Veterans Parade, and I am still working full time. Believe it or not, I have been having a great time! Thank you to all who attended and helped. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. I am blessed with great people around me. Emailing is the best way to contact me if you’d like to invite me to attend an event in your area.

Please check the dates and times for the Fall Forum Trainings. We will do our best to make it worth your time with a lot of information and fun. PLEASE advertise on Facebook. I like to make a flyer, take a picture of it, and send it to Facebook, selecting to send as a group on the Department of Illinois American Legion Auxiliary Facebook page.

Also, call members to invite them. Phone calls are still the best way to include members. It’s not too early to send a ‘save the date’ notice now. We would love to give out a lot of prizes. Invite eligible non-members so they can learn about the many opportunities we have to help Veterans, Active Military, their families, and our communities. It may encourage them to join. I truly do look forward to seeing you!

President Angie Golightly

Angie Golightly is a 31-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her eligibility is through her late father William E. Lundy who began his service during WWII, fought in Korea, and served during the Vietnam War. Her brother Klaus also fought in the Vietnam War.
